If you’ve headed out in Bournemouth and/or Poole for a night out in the last 32 years, then the chances are you’ve danced to the sounds of DJ Jay Rachet!
Jay’s fabulous career gives no impression of slowing up in 2020, but looking back, it was in 1988 that Jay played his first ever DJ set. The venue was the Tiberius Casino at Bournemouth’s then 5-star hotel, The Royal Bath. Jay recalls ‘it was my first performance as a DJ, and they paid me in Casino chips!’..
From then on, Jay developed into one of the ‘go-to’ DJs for virtually every venue in the area, with his totally versatile style owed to a monumental collection of records across many genres. When asked about his style, Jay says, ‘i’ve always found myself playing records for the girls. If they’re happy and dancing, the party always has a great vibe! I’ll play a few songs they know well, and then i throw in a track that’s slightly more niche, or one that i think is on the verge of going mainstream. It’s a formula that’s worked well over the years!’..
Jay was, and still is, a resident DJ at the highly regarded club night ‘Bump ‘n’ Hustle’, where he has always specialised in RnB. In fact, RnB also featured in one of the longest-running weekly radio shows in the UK that Jay hosted, for 17 years, on Bournemouth station, FIRE Radio!
Alongside many club nights and private events, Jay was the original host and MC at the vast majority of shows at Landmarc, a restaurant theatre concept in Bournemouth that had a huge following in the ‘noughties’ with a large variety of entertainment on show, from cabaret to internationally acclaimed artists.
At Boogie on the Beach, Jay will be hosting, DJ’ing, and introducing on the main stage – we look forward to seeing him in action!
