It was 1997 when a young Shola Ama first appeared on the BBC’s Top Of The Pops to perform Soul track “You Might Need Somebody”, wearing an all-black suit with a group of backup dancers and a live band to boot.

Originally recorded by Turley Richards in 1980, the song had previously been made a classic through Randy Crawford’s 1981 cover. To watch Shola’s performance on Top Of The Pops as she oozed a subtle coolness was a breakthrough moment for her.

Shola has since become one of Britain’s most successful R&B artists. Her debut album ‘Much Love’ sold over 1 million copies, scoring 2 top five singles with ‘You Might Need Somebody’ and ‘You’re The One I Love’. The success of ‘Much Love’ culminated in 2 MOBO award wins and 2 Brit Awards – the crowning achievement for an incredible journey.

With numerous collaborations and writing projects under her belt, and currently finishing her long-awaited fourth studio album, Shola continues to be a prominent figure in UK music to this day.

At Boogie on the Beach, Shola will exclusively perform a selection of Soul tracks that have influenced and inspired her over the years!
